Numerical analysis of strongly nonlinear oscillation systems using He’s max-min method

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2011, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 435-441 doi: 10.1007/s11465-011-0243-x

Abstract:

Nonlinear functions are crucial points and terms in engineering problems. Actual and physical problems can be solved by solving and processing such functions. Thus, most scientists and engineers focus on solving these equations. This paper presents a novel method called the max-min method for presenting an accurate approximate analytical solution to strong nonlinear oscillators. It can solve many linear or nonlinear differential equations without the tangible restriction of sensitivity to the degree of the nonlinear term. It is also quite convenient due to the reduction in the size of calculations. The algorithm suggests a promising approach and is systematically illustrated step by step.

Nutrient status and pollution levels in five areas around a manganese mine in southern China

Kehui Liu, Xiaolu Liang, Chunming Li, Fangming Yu, Yi Li

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2020, Volume 14, Issue 6, doi: 10.1007/s11783-020-1279-0

Abstract: Abstract • The soil TP level was high or extremely high in all areas. • TN, OM and available Cu were insufficient in EA, TA and RA. • All areas reached the heavily polluted level and had high ecological risk levels. • Mn and Cd were the dominant pollutants. Nutrient status and pollution levels are the main factors affecting soil restoration. The nutrient status and pollution levels in five areas, an unexplored mine area (UA), an explored mine area (EA), a tailings area (TA), a reclamation area (RA) and an agricultural area (AA), around the Pingle manganese mine in Guangxi, China, were assessed in this study. The results showed that the average total phosphorus in these five areas ranged from 1.05 to 1.57 mg/kg, corresponding to grades of extremely high and high. The average total nitrogen values were 0.19, 0.69, 0.93, 1.24 and 1.67 mg/kg in EA, TA, RA, UA and AA, corresponding to grades of very low, low, medium-low, medium-high and medium-high, respectively. The average organic matter values were 12.78, 8.92, 22.77, 21.29 and 29.11 mg/kg in EA, TA, RA, UA and AA, which corresponded to grades of medium-low, low, medium-high, medium-high and medium-high, respectively. All these results indicated that the total phosphorus was sufficient in these areas, while the total nitrogen and organic matter were insufficient in EA, TA and RA. The available concentrations of Mn and Zn corresponded to the intermediate grade, while the values for Cu corresponded to the very low grade; these might be another factor restricting ecological reclamation. Contamination and ecological risk assessments based on the single contamination index, Nemerow multi-factor index and potential ecological risk index showed that the five tested areas around the Mn mine were considered heavily polluted and presented high ecological risk. Mn and Cd were the dominant pollutants.

species associated with eucalypt diseases in southern China

Shuaifei CHEN, Qianli LIU, Guoqing LI, Michael J. WINGFIELD

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2017, Volume 4, Issue 4,   Pages 433-447 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2017173

Abstract: The genus includes several important pathogens of species of and , mainly causing leaf and shoot blight. Recently, extensive shoot and leaf dieback and stem cankers suspected to be diseases have been found on young trees in Guangdong and Hainan Provinces. The occurrence of species and their association with eucalypt hosts within China needs to be investigated for tree diseases management. The isolates from the diseased samples were identified based on their morphological structures and phylogenetic analyses with DNA sequence data for the internal transcribed spacer region and large ribosome subunit RNA of the nuclear rDNA. This work revealed that three species of were present: from , from , both isolated from young eucalypt leaves and shoots in Guangdong Province, and , which was isolated from stem cankers of at four different sites across Guangdong and Hainan Provinces. These results confirmed that agents were associated with the diseases occurring on eucalypt hosts in South China. This is the first report of in Asia and the first report of in China on trees.

Chaos Engineering

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 2,   Pages 10-15

Abstract:

The world is nonlinear, linearity is oly its approximate description. The discovery of chaos has showed that some deterministic nonlinear systems exhibit inner random behavior. Over the past two decades, chaos was such a universal phenomenon that it was reported virtually in every scientific discipline : mathematics, physics, chemistry, and even the social sciences. The main interest for theoretical academicians has been to investigate the essence of chaos. At the same time, practical applicatioins of chaos have been widely appreciated in many engineering fields such as information engineering, system engineering, medical engineering, agricultural engineering, electrical engineering, biological engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, etc. Chaos Engineering is a new nonlinear engineering science to research the practical use of chaos and its fundamental theory. In this paper, the object, definition, concept, method, theory and application of modern Chaos Engineering are summarized. Some works done by the author and the recent advances are introduced. The fcx:us of Chaos Engineering research and development in national economy and national defense may include chaos analytic technique, chaos control technique and chaos synthetic technique.

Prediction of selected biodiesel fuel properties using artificial neural network

Solomon O. GIWA,Sunday O. ADEKOMAYA,Kayode O. ADAMA,Moruf O. MUKAILA

Frontiers in Energy 2015, Volume 9, Issue 4,   Pages 433-445 doi: 10.1007/s11708-015-0383-5

Abstract: Biodiesel is an alternative fuel to replace fossil-based diesel fuel. It has fuel properties similar to diesel which are generally determined experimentally. The experimental determination of various properties of biodiesel is costly, time consuming and a tedious process. To solve these problems, artificial neural network (ANN) has been considered as a vital tool for estimating the fuel properties of biodiesel, especially from its fatty acid (FA) composition. In this study, four ANNs have been designed and trained to predict the cetane number (CN), flash point (FP), kinematic viscosity (KV) and density of biodiesel using ANN with logsig and purelin transfer functions in the hidden layer of all the networks. The five most prevalent FAs from 55 feedstocks found in the literature utilized as the input parameters for the model are palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids except for density network with a sixth parameter (temperature). Other FAs that are present in the biodiesels have been considered based on the number of carbon atom chains and the level of saturation. From this study, the prediction accuracy and the average absolute deviation of the networks are CN (96.69%; 1.637%), KV (95.80%; 1.638%), FP (99.07%; 0.997%) and density (99.40%; 0.101%). These values are reasonably better compared to previous studies on empirical correlations and ANN predictions of these fuel properties found in literature. Hence, the present study demonstrates the ability of ANN model to predict fuel properties of biodiesel with high accuracy.
